چکیده

A generalized least-square method with Tikonov–Miller regularization and non-negativity constraints has been developed for deconvoluting two-dimensional coincidence Doppler broadening spectroscopy ͑CDBS͒ spectra. A projected Newton algorithm is employed to solve the generalized least-square problem. The algorithm has been tested on Monte Carlo generated spectra to find the best regularization parameters for different simulated experimental conditions. Good retrieval of the underlying positron–electron momentum distributions in the low momentum region is demonstrated. The algorithm has been successfully used to deconvolute experimental CDBS data from aluminum.

Application of Coincidence Doppler Broadening Spectroscopy to Hydrocarbons at Different Substance States

Coincidence Doppler broadening spectroscopy was applied to study n-hexane (C6H14), cyclohexane (C6H12) and cyclohexanone (C6H10O), at solid, as well as liquid states. The experiments were performed in parallel with traditional positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy. Significant positron trapping by oxygen was observed in cyclohexanone; the oxygen effect is stronger in liquid state than in ...

Theoretical and experimental study of positron annihilation with core electrons in solids.

A theory for calculating the momentum distribution of annihilating positron-electron pairs in solids is presented. To test the theory, momentum distributions are measured by the Doppler broadening of the annihilation radiation for several bulk metals and semiconductors, as well as for semiconductor alloys and for positrons trapped at vacancies in semiconductors. The theory is based on a two-par...

Positron annihilation spectroscopy is a sensitive probe for studying defects in solids

Positron annihilation spectroscopy is a sensitive probe for studying the electronic structure of defects in solids. The high-momentum part of the Doppler-broadened spectra can be used to distinguish different elements at the annihilation site. This can be achieved by using a twodetector coincidence system, which reduces the peak to background ratio dramatically. The coincident events have to be...

Using an Efficient Penalty Method for Solving Linear Least Square Problem with Nonlinear Constraints

In this paper, we use a penalty method for solving the linear least squares problem with nonlinear constraints. In each iteration of penalty methods for solving the problem, the calculation of projected Hessian matrix is required. Given that the objective function is linear least squares, projected Hessian matrix of the penalty function consists of two parts that the exact amount of a part of i...

Positron annihilation spectroscopies are methods for direct identification of vacancy-type defects by measuring positron lifetime and Doppler broadening of annihilation radiation and providing information about open volume, concentration and atoms surrounding the defect. Both these techniques are easily applied to bulk samples. Only the Doppler broadening spectroscopy can be employed in thin ep...
